M . | A U G . 2 3 | J E F F R E Y F I E L D | ? ? ? ? ? Penn State has played its share of blockbuster nonconference games over the years, and the 2019 schedule features yet another. This year, Pac-12 power Stanford will journey across the country to face the Nittany Lions on their home 0eld. Penn State has consistently 0elded one of the nation's best teams, but it has struggled against the Cardinal, winning only one of the four previous meetings. The teams' most recent game was in the quarter0nal round of the 2017 NCAA tournament. Stanford pre- vailed, 4-0, at home. The Cardinal are coming o1 an excellent 2018 season in which they won the Pac-12 title and advanced to the semi0nals of the NCAA tournament, where they were dealt their only loss of the year, a 2-0 setback vs. Florida State. This year, they return MAC Hermann Trophy winner Catarina Macario. In her two seasons at Stanford, Macario has totaled 86 points, including a nation-leading 50 points as a freshman. Since her arrival, Stanford has gone 45-2-2. Penn State coach Erica Dambach has said her team is getting set to face "one of the most challenging sched- ules in the country." That challenge begins in earnest in the home opener. –M.H. SCORECARD
