2 0 1 9 S E A S O N P R E V I E W coulda, woulda again. We've got to make this happen and control what we can control. And that's not to be selfish, but we have to do our part. And whether that's winning 51-49 by stopping them on the last drive or winning 7-3, we've got to do our part. We had chances to close out those two games in particular. I think that's been a message. I don't really look at stats until after the season, and I wasn't happy with where we were in the run game statisti- cally. Then you look back at the games where maybe it wasn't great statistically, and you look at why, and we gave up a few too many big runs. Wisconsin, for example, [there was] a big 80-yarder early in the game. They didn't do a whole lot after that, but that one hurt. It was a touchdown, number one, but now all of a sudden your backs are against the wall. Illinois, we go out and we play crappy for about a quarter and a half and they're running all over the place. You just look at the different things that oc- curred. Every little bit is going to make the difference if we're going to go where we want to go. So we've got to make sure it doesn't happen again. One of the things we do is, we look at the things we felt were issues. When we came out of the season, we looked at multiple-tight end, multiple-back sets that we don't get from our own offense, but that we get in this league. And you watch a couple of cut-ups, and you're going, Oh boy, we look pretty good on it. Now all of a sudden you put that one on and you go, Oh, yeah, that was hard to watch. OK, that's an off-season study. Why weren't we very good? Who's playing it well? What are some people doing that looks good against it? Or is everybody having a problem with it? Every year, I think you've got to embrace your weaknesses and you don't sit here and make excuses. All right, let's look at this. Was it personnel? Was it scheme? Was it assignment? Why weren't we good enough in this situation? What can we do to be better? To me, that's a big part of the off-season and getting better as coaches. BWI Were there answers to that?
