AUGUST 2019 THE WOLVERINE 23   MICHIGAN FOOTBALL get into trouble, and when you know they'll be respectful and not do any- thing they shouldn't. "One coach told me he loves what we do with our guys, while explain- ing how he just tries to keep the lights on — it's a credit to Michigan and the resources they provide our players with." — Austin Fox WOLVERINES NOT LISTENING TO PRESEASON HYPE, HAVE CHAMPIONSHIP GOALS Heading into fall camp, the Michi- gan Wolverines are largely projected to win the Big Ten, by various na- tional outlets. Although the Wolverines have never made it to the Big Ten Champi- onship Game, expectations couldn't be higher for U-M in 2019. At Big Ten Media Days in Chicago, the Wolver- ines didn't sound like they were wor- ried about the elevated noise. "Honestly with all the preseason predictions, we don't really pay at- tention to it that much because we know what our goal is and we know what we have to do," senior viper Khaleke Hudson said. "If it comes to a time where we are trying to make the media happy, then we aren't fo- cusing on our goals, we're focusing on the wrong things. We're just fo- cusing on winning each day." Senior offensive lineman Ben Bredeson said Michigan's attention is centered solely on getting better, not what is being said in the media. The returning team captain went on to say the 2019 U-M squad "is go- ing to be the best, most talented team I've been on in my four years." While Michigan is getting love from the national experts, the Wol- verines ended last season with a thud. Last fall finished with a 62-39 loss to Ohio State in Columbus with a chance to make it to the Big Ten Championship Game. The Wolver- ines followed that up with a 41-15 loss to Florida in the Peach Bowl. That was not the end any of the players wanted, and it provides plenty of motivation going forward. "It leaves a taste in your mouth that you're always going to have un- til the next season comes around," Bredeson said. "Dropping the game against Ohio State, then losing the bowl game, it never goes well." "I'm pretty sure that everyone has that on their mind," senior linebacker Jordan Glasgow added. "I mean there's not one day that goes by that I'm thinking about football that I don't think about every single game that we're playing, getting ready for the season, and then our rivals and what's happened in the past." The regular-season finale doesn't just stick with the players either. Glasgow admitted defensive coor- dinator Don Brown "was very upset with the outcome," but went on to note it comes down to the players playing better. With the preseason expectations, beating Ohio State is part of Michi- gan's focus heading into the season. That's the only path to the Wolver- ines accomplishing their goals. "The senior class that I'm lucky to be a part of, we've been at this, we're going on our fourth year and we've seen the ups and we've seen the downs of the last few years," Bredeson said. "We're trying to leave on the highest note possible and give the program what it is needs, which is a championship." — Andrew Hussey OFFENSE Pos. No. Name Ht. Wt. Cl. WR 9 D.
