J By Wes Morgan ack Cooley was far from a household name coming out of Glenbrook South High School in Glenview, Ill., as a senior in 2009. The power forward attracted attention within a limited radius from the Chicago area, gathering a handful of scholarship offers from the likes of Loyola, Northern Illinois and Southern Illinois, on top of Illinois, Wisconsin and Notre Dame. The opportunity the three-star prospect saw with the Fighting Irish was one where he could be himself ��� a mule of a player with far more will than flash. ���Jack is an intense, physical player who is a throwback kind of guy,��� head coach Mike Brey said on National Signing Day five years ago. ���His style of play complements our style of play, and he will be a very effective Big East player. ���He is a good screener and just has a great overall feel and understanding for the game.��� Brey���s words were prophetic, and Cooley, whose Notre Dame career is down to as many Leaving His Mark Senior forward Jack Cooley carved out a niche at Notre Dame Cooley was named first-team All-Big East after finishing the regular season as the only player in the league to average double figures in both scoring (10.6 points per game) and rebounding (13.6 caroms per contest). photo by joe raymond
