SPRING TRAINING
The Nittany Lions get down to business as practice begins

FIELD OF DREAMS
The Nittany Lions, shown
here during one of last
years spring practice
sessions, have 16 starters
and 38 letterwinners
returning for Bill OBriens
second season.
B
ill OBrien recently described
his first season at Penn State
as a whirlwind. He was talking about the difficulty of sizing
up, in a matter of months, a
roster full of kids he didnt
know anything about. Had he
been talking about the other parts of
his first season at Penn State, the offthe-field parts, well, whirlwind wouldnt
have sufficed. Surviving that maelstrom
was like riding out a tornado at a bus
stop.
But ride it out he did. And OBriens
reward for all that hard work is that
he gets to do it all over again, only this
time with the focus having mercifully
shifted back to the teams on-the-field
exploits. The Nittany Lions were set to
begin spring drills on March 18 after
holing up in the weight room for four
months following the end of the 2012
