known over the years for the stability of its staff. But he emphasized the need for new perspectives. Its a little bit more about a fresh approach, fresh ideas, doing whats best for the student-athletes, he said. Thats what weve tried to do. FOOTBALL THE MONTH IN... OPINIONS Coaches Caravan to resume on April 30 Bill OBrien is gearing up for another road trip. Beginning April 30, the Penn State Coaches Caravan will take another tour around the Mid-Atlantic region to give alumni the chance to interact with OBrien and other coaches at either a lunch or an evening reception. There are 12 stops this year, six fewer than in 2012, but OBrien is scheduled to participate in each one. Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to OBrien and at least one other head coach, and they will be given the chance to ask questions about the Nittany Lions athletic programs. We had a great turnout of Penn State alumni and fans during the Coaches Caravan last year, and I enjoyed meeting so many people who have great pride and passion for Penn State, OBrien said. Its important for me to get around Pennsylvania and other areas where we have a lot of alumni and give them a chance to get to know me and to hear from them. They need to hear about my philosophy and vision for the future and how we are moving forward. What follows is the schedule for each of the 12 stops: April 30 Reading, Pa. (lunch), Philadelphia (evening); May 1 Baltimore (lunch), Washington, D.C. (evening); May 2 Lancaster, Pa. (lunch), Harrisburg, Pa. (evening); May 7 Williamsport, Pa. (lunch), Allentown, Pa. (evening); May 8 New York City (lunch), Scranton, Pa. (evening); May 9 DuBois, Pa. (lunch), Pittsburgh (evening). Between the Penn State community still being fractured either resenting the NCAA, the administration, the Board of Trustees, Louie Freeh, the media or all of the above and others looking for any slight post-scandal perception that could trigger a social-media blaze Ganter doesnt want to make anything worse for anybody. Including himself. But I still think Ganters Penn State journey needs a last chapter, even if hes not helping to write it. Were talking about one of PSUs true unsung heroes maybe its most unsung hero of the last 50 years. People used to joke that Ganters parents dropped him off in 1967 and never picked him up. NEIL RUDEL ALTOONA MIRROR So let Corbett flip-flop on his stance and use lawsuits as a weapon choice. Let Lubrano thunder about Joe Pa and the soul of Penn State. But it was the NCAA that imposed the sanctions and it is the NCAA that can reduce them. The sanctions were written in pencil, not ink. Time for the NCAA to bring out the eraser. GENE WOJCIECHOWSKI ESPN.COM QUOTES Ive had conversations with Coach OBrien about getting to the NFL. You know how he is, hes a New England guy. The Patriots dont care where you came from or how tall you are or what school you went to as long as you can play, be successful and do what they want you to. You do that, youll play. The main thing Coach OBrien said was, All you need to worry about is getting into a camp. He said that, and I believe it. If I get there, Ill adapt, Ill learn the system, Ill make smart decisions. MATT McGLOIN TO STATECOLLEGE.COM
