new treatments, Scott Shirley said. The Kidney Cancer Association credits us with being a catalyst to that progress, he said. DEPTH CHART Looking at the Lions lineup as the off-season continues* Ten percent of that 10-year $700,000 sum has been raised during the past four years. By one person. Shrive recently was honored as the top student-athlete fundraiser in Uplifting Athletes history, having elicited $70,000 in pledges. In 2012 alone, he raised $32,868 as part of the teamrecord total of $110,374. Hes raised more [in his career] than what the entire team did during the first two years that I was involved, Shirley laughed. During the first Lift for Life, held in July 2003, the players raised $13,000. In the second year, they raised $38,000. Shrive said he relies on the help of an expanding network of family members, friends and businesspeople, many of whom are located in Scranton. He also gets some of the Scranton media on his side, so he likes to consider it a collective effort with help from his hometown and, of course, the Nittany Lion fan base. No matter how he chooses to do it, it works. And so far, he has raised more each year than the year before. With his fifth and final season approaching, Shrive is working toward his goals on the field, in the weight room and on the donation trail. He said he recently maxed out on the squat rack and squatted 475 pounds one time. Last year his max was 350. I had some personal strength goals, Shrive said. And my goal this year is to start as a senior, and play a lot of football. Hes also trying to surpass $100,000 for his career in Uplifting Athletes, which shouldnt be a problem if he can match last years haul. Who knows? He could even double it. I love setting a ridiculous goal and just going after it, he said. Then getting people behind me. It says something special about Penn State, because the fans are willing to get behind us. DEFENSE OFFENSE QUARTERBACK LEFT END 12 Steven Bench (6-2, 204, So.) 5 Tyler Ferguson (6-3, 199, So.) Christian Hackenberg (6-3, 215, Fr.) 86 C.J.
