F O O T B A L L R E C R U I T I N G Lions focused on finishing class Penn State's coaching staff still working to meet needs on both sides of the ball | D espite nearly a month-long dead period in July, plus another dead period throughout all of August, the past seven weeks have been lively ones for Penn State as the sta7 works to complete the Class of 2020. Not only did the Nittany Lions add six new commitments, they also hosted the annual Lasch Bash barbecue July 27. With just under two dozen uncommit- ted prospects in attendance, most of whom were underclassmen, the event will likely set up the Lions for more suc- cess later this year and into the 2021 re- cruiting cycle. However, there's still plenty of work to do in Penn State's current class. With James Franklin recently con6rming that he plans to sign roughly 30 prospects, the Lions could still add players at basi- cally every position but quarterback. So, who should you be watching in the months ahead? We break down the sta7's top remaining targets below. OFFENSE JALEN BERGER RB | Ramsey, N.J. | Don Bosco Prep SCHOOLS Penn State, Alabama, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Pitts- burgh, Syracuse, Rutgers, West Virginia THE LATEST Berger returned to Univer- sity Park in July for the Lasch Bash, his 6rst visit to campus in more than a year. Apparently, the trip made a big impact on him, as Berger called Penn State his No. 1 school during an interview a few days later. That said, there's still a long way to go. Ohio State missed out on two running backs recently, so the Buckeyes will surely step up their interest in Berger. He's also planning to take a visit to LSU during the season. Berger is set to decide Jan. 4 at the All-American Bowl, so this season could have a major impact. I'm also curious to see how the addition of Caziah Holmes and potentially Keyvone Lee impacts him. For now, though, there's reason for fans to be excited. KEYVONE LEE RB | Clearwater, Fla. | Superior Collegiate SCHOOLS Penn State, Florida, Florida State, LSU THE LATEST Lee took his o8cial visit to Penn State in April. He then visited both Florida and LSU during the 6nal week of July, but both programs are believed to have other prospects ahead of him on their respective recruiting boards. We also know that Florida State is interested in him as a linebacker. Penn State has been going all out for Lee all spring and summer, and the fact that he's already locked in a commitment date, Aug. 26, hints that he knows where he wants to go. As of mid-August, all signs pointed to Lee committing to the Nittany Lions at the end of the month. JOSHUA DOWNS WR | Suwanee, Ga. | North Gwinnett SCHOOLS Committed to North Car- olina; considering Penn State For daily and breaking news updates on Penn State football recruiting, visit bwi.rivals.com.
