CHRIS ZORICH PARTS WAYS WITH CHICAGO STATE Chicago State University announced July 30 it had parted ways with former Notre Dame All-American and College Football Hall of Fame nose guard Chris Zorich (1987-90), whom it hired as its athletics director in May 2018. Per The Chicago Tribune's Shannon Ryan, the separation agreement between Zorich and Chicago State stated: "I have been informed that the university has decided to terminate my employment. As stated in Section 5.2 of my employment agreement, this termination is without cause." There also was an agreement that Zorich would not sue the university, other than to enforce terms of the deal, and there would be confidentiality about his termination. A tweet July 30 from the Chicago native Zorich's Twit- ter account read: "We strived to keep the welfare of our student-athletes as our primary mission. I want to thank the administration, coaches, staff and student-athletes for providing me with the opportunity to serve them." Per The Tribune, the school has been in financial turmoil and administrative turnover for years, and only 86 stu- dents enrolled in the 2016-17 freshman class. That same academic year a USA Today report showed CSU ranked 226th out of 230 public Division I colleges in athletic de- partment revenue. Prior to his stint at CSU, Zorich had been the athletics director since 2015 at Prairie State College, a community college in Chicago Heights. — Lou Somogyi Zorich was separated from his post as athletics director at Chicago State University after one year on the job.
