www.BLUEANDGOLD.com SEPT. 16, 2019 43 PREP PROFILES Notre Dame already has a pair of highly ranked 2021 offensive line commitments in Avon (Ind.) High tackle Blake Fisher (No. 17 overall player nationally per Rivals) and Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy cen- ter Greg Crippen (No. 118). The Irish would love to add Fort Worth (Texas) All Saints Episcopal School junior offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer to its commitment list. The Fighting Irish offered Brock- ermeyer in March, and the five-star prospect visited South Bend for the first time in June with his family. "Notre Dame was very impres- sive," said Brockermeyer, the na- tion's No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 5 overall recruit in the 2021 class ac- cording to Rivals. "Most of the schools I visit are really good at football, but the ac- ademic part is so-so. Notre Dame has both packages — academics and football — combined into one. That was awesome. "They focus so much on the school part, and want you to be successful in life." Notre Dame offensive line coach Jeff Quinn has impressed Brocker- meyer early on during the recruiting process. "He's definitely one of my favor- ite O-line coaches," Brockermeyer stated. "He's serious and funny. He loves all of his players. I'm excited to keep on talking to him and build my relationship with him." Brockermeyer doesn't have a list of favorite schools at the moment, but noted that the Fighting Irish are in the mix. "They're definitely one of my top schools," Brockermeyer said. The 6-6, 270-pounder is locked in to visit Texas when the Longhorns host LSU Sept. 7. He does not have any other visits set at this time, but he is considering getting back up to the Midwest. "I'm definitely thinking about coming up for a Michigan or Notre Dame game, hopefully both," he said. Brockermeyer has deep ties to the Texas Longhorns football program. He is a third-generation UT legacy, and his brother Luke is a redshirt freshman linebacker for Texas. Most people assume Brockermeyer will end up at Texas, but he is giving ev- ery school recruiting him a fair shot. "I treat every school the same and look at each part of their programs," Brockermeyer explained. "That's how I'm going to make my decision." — Mike Singer Notre Dame is likely opting not to take a linebacker in the 2020 cycle, making that position in the 2021 class even more important. During the spring, Notre Dame de- fensive line coach Mike Elston iden- tified Barrett Carter, a 2021 outside linebacker from Suwanee (Ga.) North Gwinnett while recruiting his team- mate, 2020 defensive end Jared Ivey. Not much came out of Notre Dame's recruitment of Ivey, with the Irish moving on from him, but Elston has maintained contact with Carter. "I keep in touch with Coach Elston a lot," said Carter, who is rated as the No. 4 outside linebacker and No. 56 overall prospect in the country by Rivals. "They want to get me on cam- pus for a game this year. That's going to be a priority of mine." Carter 's relationship with Elston could be key to his recruitment. "I love Coach Elston," he stated. "When I met him, he was a great dude. I can tell that he's an all- around great guy. That's the type of coach that I want to be coached by." Carter is from Chicago and grew up in the Windy City. He still has plenty of family in the area as well. He hopes to get back to the Midwest to see some family and also visit Notre Dame. "I hope I get up there," he noted. Carter is intrigued with what Notre Dame can offer him in the classroom and on the gridiron. "Notre Dame is a great academic and football school," he said. "What more can you ask for?" Carter also has offers from Ala- bama, Auburn, Georgia, Nebraska, Ohio State, South Carolina and Vir- ginia Tech. He is in no rush to make any big decisions on his recruiting process. "I'm just taking it day by day right now," the four-star prospect said. "I don't have a top schools list or any- thing." — Mike Singer Irish Are In The Mix For Five-Star OT From Texas Georgia Linebacker Hopes To Take A Trip To South Bend "Most of the schools I visit are really good at football, but the academic part is so-so.
