Junior Avery Davis and senior Ja- von McKinley both made electrifying runs after catches, combining for 144 yards and three touchdowns. "He is a physical presence," head coach Brian Kelly said of McKinley. "He can play as a No. 1. The young man is playing at a consistent level. He is practicing well. He is doing the right things on and off the field. "All the traits are starting to show themselves, and he is preparing him- self for a big year for us." McKinley's first catch was brought in about eight yards down the field, and he turned it into a 65-yard touch- down by breaking five tackles and adding a spin move for good mea- sure. Then in the third quarter, he made a leaping back-shoulder catch in the corner of the end zone on a 20-yard throw for his second score of the day. This showcased the strength of his hands, as he went up and over a New Mexico defender and was able to hang on to the ball.
