FULL HOUSE BACKFIELD
The Lions were overloaded with RB talent in the early '90s, but they found the right balance
ith a group of four talented run-
ning backs that includes a red-
shirt sophomore, a true
sophomore and two true freshmen vying
for playing time this season, one is re-
minded of the outstanding running back
recruits of 1991.
That's the class that featured tailbacks
Ki-Jana Carter, Mike Archie and Stephen
Pitts. All three became standouts on the
field, with Carter leading the pack as a
consensus first-team All-American and
runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in
1994. Looking back at what they accom-
plished, it's the best single year of run-
ning back recruits in
Penn State's history.
Throw in J.T. Morris,
who was recruited dur-
ing his senior year of
high school in 1989 as a
fullback when full-
backs were an integral part of the Penn
State offense, and you have a situation
somewhat similar to the one today. How
do you convince all those young backs to
stay through graduation, con-
tribute and carve out their own
Penn State legacy?

lished star when the tailbacks
were being recruited in 1990,
and they all saw the opportunity
