4 CAVALIER CORNER Dear Cavalier Fans, As we enter the final weeks of 2019, our staff is thankful for the thousands of generous donors who contribute each year to support our student-athletes, coaches and athletics staff. This generosity is vital to the overall success of each of our 27 varsity sports. We are currently in the process of funding the remaining scholarships for 2019 and increasing our membership to an all-time high. In an effort to meet these goals, we have launched an end- of-year mem- bership drive. 10 Weeks to 10,000 seeks to cap off a historically successful 2019 for Virginia Athletics by surpassing our membership goal of 10,000. Members like you can help us in this endeavor by becoming advocates and encouraging others to support the scholarships, operations and academic affairs funded by the VAF. To learn more, please visit our website: VirginiaAthleticsFoundation.com. Fundraising this year has focused on increasing our Annual Fund and financing the Athletics Master Plan. We remain committed to fully funding all scholarships to the NCAA maximum number in each sport. This becomes more challenging each year. As communicated in August, the Virginia Athletics Foundation Board of Trustees evaluates the giving levels every year and this year, in an effort to close the scholarship funding gap, they approved the first giving level increase since 2006. These new levels will be implemented starting January 1, 2020. You can learn more at VAFGivingLevels.com. So far over 25% of our donors who have made a commitment this year have increased their Annual Fund commitments by 10%. We are grateful for that sup- port. This year a full out-of-state scholarship costs over $63,500 (not including any summer school expenses) and an in-state scholarship costs over $32,500. We will spend over $20 million in scholarship support. Any increase in annual giving is extremely helpful. It is not too late to add to your Annual Fund gift for this year! The Virginia Athletics Master Plan is progressing and the transformation of the site since the demolition of University Hall has been amazing. In November, the construction of Phase I began which will create two natural grass football practice fields. The football program will be able to use these fields for fall camp starting in August 2020. Our fundraising progress for the Master Plan has topped $30 million and our staff is actively visiting with donors who are interested in supporting this ef- fort. We will need many more commitments to reach our target of $180 million and we have been encouraged by the overall enthusiasm for helping secure the future of Virginia Athletics. To keep up to date on the progress, please enjoy our video series Here We Go which can be found on the Master Plan website: VirginiaSportsMP.com. I look forward to sharing the 2019 fundraising results once they are finalized at the beginning of the new year. These are very exciting times for Virginia Ath- letics and our student-athletes. It is your generosity and loyal support that helps make this all possible. Thank you. Best regards, Dirk P. Katstra Executive Director 2019 BOARD OF TRUSTEES OFFICERS President Alan A.
