AMAZING INDIVIDUAL EFFORT GIVES
U-M FIELD HOCKEY MARQUEE VICTORY
The ninth-ranked Wolverines posted a 1-0 victory over No. 2 Maryland Oct. 18, thanks to an
incredible goal from senior Guadalupe Fernandez Lacort (No. 16). The Argentina native tallied
her third marker of the season with a remarkable solo effort that saw her start by moving to
the left baseline, popping the ball over the stick of one Terrapin defender, banking it off an-
other and then chipping it over the sprawled goalkeeper into the far lower corner of the cage.
The U-M defense made the goal at the 28:57 mark stand up for the rest of the game.
The victory also represented head coach Marcia Pankratz's 300th career win. The 20th-year
mentor now boasts 300-130 career mark to rank 12th all time among Division I coaches with
a .698 win percentage (seventh among active coaches) and 18th in total wins.
