Lions open season with shutout victory over Midshipmen Top-ranked Penn State opened its 2019-20 season with a resounding 45-0 victory over Navy on Nov. 10 in sold out Rec Hall. Four Nittany Lion wrestlers made their Rec Hall debuts, with all four coming away victorious. The dual meet began at 141 pounds, where third-ranked junior Nick Lee pinned Cody Trybus in 6 minutes, 16 sec- onds. Junior Luke Gardner, making his Penn State dual meet debut, followed suit at 149, pinning Navy's Jon Park at the 1:16 mark. Junior Bo Pipher stepped in for No. 6 Brady Berge at 157 and escaped with only two seconds remaining in the third pe- riod for a 7-6 win over Scout Skidgel. Senior Vincenzo Joseph, ranked No. 1 at 165, dominated No. 11 Tanner Skidgel in his season opener, earning a 20-5 techni- cal fall at the 6:02 mark. At 174, top- ranked senior Mark Hall made quick work of Spencer Carey, pinning the 17th- ranked Midshipman a6er only 58 sec- onds. Redshirt freshman Creighton Edsell stepped in for No. 3 Shakur Rasheed at 184 and defeated Andrew Buckley, 5-2, in his collegiate debut. At 197, third-ranked Kyle Conel, an All-America graduate transfer from Kent State, used a third- period reversal to post a 4-3 win over Jacob Koser, while top-ranked senior An- thony Cassar began the defense of his 2019 NCAA heavyweight title by pinning John Birchmeier at the 4:41 mark. Freshman Brody Teske made his Nit- tany Lion debut at 125 and picked up a 2- 1 victory over Logan Treaster, while third-ranked sophomore Roman Bravo- Young capped the meet with a 17-6 major decision over Navy's Casey Cobb at 133.
