N O T E B O O K WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL Jonni Parker, Tori Gorrell, Serena Gray, Kaitlyn Hord and Allyson Cathey each hit .400 or better with at least eight kills, as No. 8 Penn State swept Northwestern, 25-15, 25-18, 25-15, on Nov. 17 in Evanston. The Nittany Lions hit .396 as a team while improving to 21-4 overall and 14-2 in the Big Ten. It was the team's 12th win in its past 13 matches. The Wildcats saw their record dip to 11-17 overall and 2-14 in the conference. Gray and Hord, both sophomore mid- dle blockers, put up matching attack numbers for Penn State, each :nishing with 10 kills on .500 hitting. Hord added four blocks, while Gray contributed two. Parker recorded a team-high 13 kills on .400 hitting while adding :ve digs and an ace. Gorrell hit .450 with 11 kills and two blocks, while Cathey came through with eight kills on .462 hitting. The back row also played well for Penn State, led by Kendall White with 13 digs. That gives her 1,889 for her career, put- ting her 69 away from passing Kaleena Walters for the program record. Gabby Blossom added eight digs in addition to 42 assists. Penn State, which began its road trip with a sweep of 25th-ranked Illinois two nights earlier, hasn't lost a set to North- western since 2015. With its most recent sweep of the Wildcats, its streak stands at 21 consecutive sets. WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Penn State captured its fourth NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional championship in the past :ve years, as senior Kathryn Munks placed second overall to pace the Nittany Lions on Nov. 15 at Bethlehem, Pa. The Lions :nished with 73 points to edge Vil- lanova, which :nished second with 77. Munks completed the 6-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 10.7 seconds, while senior Danae Rivers was sixth in 20:23.8. Rivers remained in the top 15 throughout the race and kicked into an- other gear during the :nal 2,000 meters to move up from 12th place. Julia Paternain and Alison Willingmyre also :nished in the top 15 and joined Munks and Rivers in winning All-Region honors. The Nittany Lions advanced to the NCAA :nals Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
