20 NOV. 30, 2019 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED forced a fumble on the third. Kareem helped end the first possession with a hurried incomplete pass, and on the third he forced a fumble by Grosel that junior linebacker Drew White re- covered at Boston College's 40-yard line to set up Kmet's touchdown. On the Eagles' fifth position of the quarter, Kareem recorded a sack. Ogundeji recorded his second sack of the game in the quarter as well. Stats: The 20 plays run by the Eagles in the quarter netted only 49 yards, while Notre Dame's 21 plays totaled 167. Through three quarters, the Irish had a 420-176 advantage in total yardage. Notre Dame had 227 passing yards and 193 rushing yards. Notes: Doerer connected on his fourth field goal, this one from 37 yards, to provide a 19-7 cushion at the 7:03 mark. Notre Dame began that drive at the Boston College 46- yard line after a punt and was able to get 27 yards before a third-and-seven pass to Lenzy fell incomplete. FOURTH QUARTER: NOTRE DAME, 40-7 Top Moment: Freshman Kyle Hamilton intercepted his team-high fourth pass of the year and returned it 25 yards to Boston College's 12- yard line. Three plays later on third- and-four, a scrambling Book found Finke in the back of the end zone for a 40-7 lead with 11:31 still remaining. Feature Performer: In his one se- ries at quarterback, sophomore Phil Jurkovec was active with five carries for 42 yards, and his lone pass at- tempt was completed for 10 yards. However, a goal-line stand by the Eagles prevented another Fighting Irish score late in the contest. Stats: Although Notre Dame had dif- ficulties running the ball convention- ally, Book's scrambles and the back- breaking 61-yard touchdown romp by Lenzy in the third quarter statistically balanced out the attack with 252 rush- ing yards and 249 passing yards. Notes: Jurkovec's 27-yard run gave Notre Dame a first down at Boston College's 3-yard line, but four straight rushing plays by the Irish, two by Jurkovec, netted only one yard, so Boston College took possession at its 2-yard line with 4:33 remaining. ✦ BC ND FIRST QUARTER ND Doerer 47-yard field goal 11:11 0 3 Drive: 9 plays, 50 yards, 3:49 SECOND QUARTER ND Doerer 29-yard field goal 14:52 0 6 Drive: 12 plays, 61 yards, 4:45 BC Grosel 1-yard run (Boumerhi kick) 7:56 7 6 Drive: 16 plays, 84 yards, 6:52 ND Claypool 6-yard pass from Book (Doerer kick) 2:48 7 13 Drive: 15 plays, 75 yards, 5:08 ND Doerer 45-yard field goal 0:01 7 16 Drive: 7 plays, 56 yards, 1:17 THIRD QUARTER ND Doerer 37-yard field goal 7:03 7 19 Drive: 7 plays, 27 yards, 1:58 ND Kmet 11-yard pass from Book (Doerer kick) 3:44 7 26 Drive: 6 plays, 40 yards, 1:56 ND Lenzy 61-yard run (Doerer Kick) 1:44 7 33 Drive: 1 play, 61 yards, 0:11 FOURTH QUARTER ND Finke 6-yard pass from Book (Doerer kick) 11:31 7 40 Drive: 3 plays, 12 yards, 0:38 BC ND Total First Downs 11 27 Rushing 10 9 Passing 1 17 Penalty 0 1 Rushing Attempts 43 44 Yards Gained Rushing 156 270 Yards Lost Rushing 28 18 Net Yards Rushing 128 252 Net Yards Passing 63 249 Passes Attempted 21 41 Passes Completed 9 27 Had Intercepted 1 0 Percent Completion 42.9% 65.9% Yards Per Attempt 3.0 6.1 Yards Per Completion 7.0 9.2 Total Offensive Plays 64 85 Total Net Yards 191 501 Average Gain Per Play 3.0 5.9 Fumbles: No.-Lost 2-1 0-0 Penalties: No.-Yards 2-25 8-54 Punts: No.-Yards 8-357 4-135 Average Per Punt 44.6 33.8 Average Net Punt 38.0 33.8 Punt Returns: No.-Yards 0-0 5-53 Kickoff Returns: No.-Yards 4-57 1-17 Interception Returns: No.-Yards 0-0 1-27 Fumble Returns: No.-Yards 0-0 0-0 Miscellaneous Yards 0 0 Possession Time 25:04 34:56 Third-Down Conversions 8-18 10-19 Percentage 44.4% 52.6% Fourth-Down Conversions 0-1 1-2 Percentage 0.0% 50.0% Sacks By: No.-Yards 1-8 4-21 Senior defensive end Khalid Kareem made six tackles, including one sack, and added a quarter- back hurry and forced a fumble that was recov- ered by the Fighting Irish.
