Bishop Amat's Dyson McCutcheon, a three-star tal- ent per Rivals, landed the offer from the Fighting Irish during a phone call with wide receivers coach Del Alexander Nov. 17. Notre Dame joined Arizona, BYU, Duke, Oregon State, Washington State and a few others on his offer sheet. "Everybody knows who Notre Dame is," McCutcheon said. "There's a great tradition there. I've heard how great Notre Dame is. Getting an offer from them is a big jump for me, and it's a boost of confidence knowing that I can play at that level." McCutcheon is the son of former USC defensive back Daylon Mc- Cutcheon, who played in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns. His grand- father is Lawrence McCutcheon, a five-time Pro Bowler who played in the league in the 1970s. Daylon McCutcheon played high school football with former Notre Dame linebacker Kory Minor at Bishop Amat in the early 1990s. Minor informed Alexander about the junior defensive back, and Notre Dame started showing interest in the 5-10, 160-pounder in September. • Notre Dame offered class of 2022 defensive back Xavier Nwankpa from Pleasant Hill (Iowa) Southeast Polk during his visit to Notre Dame Nov. 16. He becomes Notre Dame's second defensive back offer in the sophomore class, joining Jaden Gould of Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic. Nwankpa received the scholarship offer during a conversation with Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly. "I was excited and in shock," Nwankpa said. "I didn't think it would hap- pen." Rivals has not ranked the 2022 class yet, but Nwankpa is considered one of the best sophomore defensive backs in the country. He holds offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska and Notre Dame, and his list will continue to grow over the next few months. • The Irish offered its first offensive line prospects in the 2022 class, both coming from the state of Wisconsin. Notre Dame hosted Joe Brunner, a 6-5, 270-pounder from Whitefish Bay (Wis.) High, and Carson Hinzman, a 6-4, 275-pounder from Hammond (Wis.) St. Croix Central. Both Brunner and Hinzman have just a few offers — the other notable schools on their lists are Iowa and Wisconsin. • Indianapolis Brebeuf Jesuit Prep class of 2022 defensive end Joe Strick- land visited Notre Dame for the Navy game as well. The 6-4, 249-pounder holds offers from Boston College, Indiana, Purdue and Toledo, and an offer from the Irish would make Notre Dame the team to beat in his recruitment. — Mike Singer Follow @BGI_MikeSinger on Twitter for daily recruiting updates!
