On the eve of the early signing period, PSU makes a big addition to the Class of 2020

enn State picked up what was ex-
pected to be its /nal commitment
in the Class of 2020 ahead of the
early signing period when Rivals250 tight
end Theo Johnson announced his deci-
sion in front of friends and family at his
school, Holy Names High, on Dec. 9.
A Canadian prospect from Windsor,
Ontario, Johnson had been at the top of
Penn State's recruiting board for months.
The Nittany Lions were believed to be the
favorites going all the way back to the
spring. But as his recruitment progressed,
it became di1cult for Johnson to cut o0
relationships with other schools, and
Georgia, Iowa and Michigan emerged as
Penn State's main competitors.
All four programs earned o1cial visits,
while Iowa, Michigan and Penn State
hosted him for multiple uno1cial visits,
too. In the end, he visited Penn State
seven times, more than any other school.
Johnson's last trip to University Park
came in October, when he used his o1cial
visit to attend the win over Michigan.
"I really liked all four of the schools that
I had narrowed it down to. There was a
point in time where I seriously considered
committing to each one of those schools,"
he said. "So it's been a tough road, but in
the end, I feel like this was just the best
decision for me."
