When it was announced earlier this month that
James Franklin's contract extension had been ap-
proved by the Penn State board of trustees, many
current and former Nittany Lion players re-
sponded via social media using one of the coach's
Twitter catchphrases: "We are better." That might
seem a bit cryptic to those who don't follow
Franklin on social media, but it's a familiar tweet
to those who do, a signal that the Lions have
landed a verbal commitment. The three-word
phrase had been used to herald the arrival of all
those players, and now they were spinning it
around, using it to laud their coach.
"It was really pretty cool to see a bunch of for-
mer players and players in the NFL, and also our
current players, all tweeting out 'We are better'
with a connection to my new contract announce-
ment," Franklin said. "I thought that was really
cool. It meant a lot to me and my wife."
It was announced on Dec. 6, following a meeting
of the trustees' compensation committee, that the
Nittany Lions' head coach had agreed to terms on
