To be eligible, those nomi- nated must be a starter or important reserve with a minimum GPA of 3.30, and have to be in at least the second year at their respective school while also having played in a minimum of 50 percent of their team's games. The team captain started 18 of 19 matches for Michigan in 2019, and helped the program set a new record for lowest goals-against average (0.78) while tying the all-time mark for fewest goals conceded (18). Women's basketball sophomore forward Naz Hillmon: She racked up a career-high 28 points in Michigan's 80- 71 triumph at Akron Nov. 16. The Wolverines trailed 61-57 with just 9:05 to go, but the 6-2 native of Cleveland chipped in four points during a 12-0 U-M run that resulted in a 69-61 lead with 6:08 remain- ing. The sophomore hit 9 of 12 shots against the Zips, while also connecting on 10 of 11 free throws and registering eight rebounds with three assists. Hillmon's previ- ous career high in points occurred last February when she poured in 27 at Michigan State. Women's swimming and diving sophomore butterfly specialist/freestyler Maggie MacNeil: The London, Ontario, product tied USC's Louise Hansson for both the NCAA and U.S. Open records in the 100-yard butterfly by recording a 49.26 Dec. 6 at the Minnesota Invite. Already standing as the reigning world champion in the 100-meter but- terfly, MacNeil's time of 49.26 in Minneapolis is the fastest time clocked in the United States by a swimmer of any nationality. Ac- cording to SwimSwam.com, yards races are exclusively American nowadays, meaning U.S. Open records are "in essence the best time ever." Wrestling sophomore heavyweight Mason Parris: He took home the heavyweight title Dec. 7 at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, using two first-period take- downs to grab a 6-3 decision against sixth-ranked Tanner Hall of Arizona State in the championship. The sophomore also tallied a 6-1 decision against 12th-ranked Christian Lance of Nebraska in the morning semifinal round, once again receiving a boost from two takedowns in the opening period. Parris became Michigan's fourth Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational champion in three years, joining Myles Amine in 2018, and Alec Pantaleo and Adam Coon in 2017. Women's soccer junior midfielder Sarah Stratigakis: She was tabbed as a second-team United Soccer Coaches All-American Dec. 5, after having already earned the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year award and first- team all-conference honors. Stratigakis' 12 assists led the league and were tied for ninth in the coun- try this season, while her 26 points paced the Maize and Blue's roster. The junior tallied three game- winning goals in 2019 and helped lead the club to a 13-0-0 record in matches where she registered at least one point.
