32 THE WOLVERINE JANUARY 2020   MICHIGAN FOOTBALL my life, and I'm truly thankful for this experience!" The third-year wideout is expected to have two years of eligibility re- maining. If he graduates before de- parting U-M, he would be immedi- ately eligible to play elsewhere. Fellow redshirt sophomore Jordan Anthony, meanwhile, announced his intentions Dec. 4, days after Michi- gan's season-ending loss to Ohio State. The linebacker played in nine games and 93 defensive snaps this year, notching six tackles. Redshirt freshman Cam McGrone passed him on the depth chart, and his emer- gence (along with junior Josh Ross' redshirt) left the former five-star re- cruit's future playing time in doubt. Anthony played in only three games since U-M's 35-14 loss at Wis- consin in September, last in the win at Maryland Nov. 2. He was at his best in a win over Army when he helped shut out the Black Knights in the second half of a 24-21 double- overtime win, replacing the injured Ross. "He's got to get 11 guys lined up, plus himself, then play against the triple option or execute all these blitzes, and he's played [zero] foot- ball for Michigan," coordinator Don Brown said the following week. "So how did he play? Well, all I know is that the half that he played, they scored zero points, so how do you think he played? It's amazing to me." Black and Anthony join tight end Mustapha Muhammad and safety J'Marick Woods as U-M players to enter the transfer portal since the be- ginning of the 2019 season. — Chris Balas MICHIGAN 17TH IN BOTH POLLS HEADING INTO BOWL PLAY AND 14TH IN CFP RANKINGS Michigan's 9-3 finish in the regu- lar season earned the Wolverines a No. 17 ranking in both the As- sociated Press and coaches' polls, making the Wolverines the third- highest-ranked three-loss team be- hind Wisconsin (No. 11 per AP and coaches) and Auburn (No. 9 and 13, respectively). U-M moved up one spot to No. 17 in the coaches' poll after champion- ship weekend, jumping Boise State following the Broncos' 31-10 win over Hawai'i in the Mountain West championship game. Six Big Ten teams cracked the fi- nal AP top 25 of the regular season, more than any other conference (the SEC was next with five). U-M and the Badgers were joined by No. 2 Ohio State, No. 13 Penn State, No. 16 Minnesota and No. 19 Iowa. The Big Ten teams finished in the same slots in the coaches' poll except for PSU, which was No. 12. Another Michigan rival, Notre Dame, finished the season 10-2 and No. 14 nationally in both polls. The Wolverines hammered the Fighting Irish 45-14 on Oct. 26. U-M, meanwhile, finished No. 14 in the College Football Playoff rank- ings. OSU was No. 2, Wisconsin No. 8, PSU No. 10, Notre Dame No. 15, Iowa No. 16 and Minnesota No. 18 in that one. — Chris Balas Black ends his U-M career with 40 catches for 507 yards and two scores in 21 games played.
