gram history and won three Big Ten titles at 134 pounds. He still holds the school record for career wins (183) and went on to a successful international career in freestyle wrestling. Hooiveld came to Ann Arbor after representing Austra- lia in the 1988 Olympics as a 17-year-old. She went on to enjoy one of the best careers in U-M annals and is one of just five Michigan women to ever win an individual NCAA title, sweeping the 100- and 200-yard breast- strokes in 1993 en route to NCAA Swimmer of the Year and Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year honors. Simpkins played seven seasons in the NFL after con- cluding his time with the Wolverines as a consensus All-American and team captain in 1979. His 516 career tackles are still a program record. Nearly 20 years after her career ended, Thomas still ranks seventh in U-M history for scoring (1,556 points), fourth in rebounding (851) and first in steals (372). She was the first All-American in the NCAA era for the pro- gram, earning an honorable mention in 2000, and was drafted into the WNBA, where she played six seasons. Willis won NCAA titles for the Wolverines in the mile (2005) and distance medley relay (2004) and was named an All-American on both the track and cross country course. He broke collegiate records in the indoor 3,000 meters, indoor distance medley relay and 4x1 mile relay outdoors, and went on to enjoy a successful interna- tional career that included four Olympic appearances and two medals.
