n January 2017, Alabama welcomed 12
members of its recruiting class to
campus, the largest contingent of early
enrollees in school history and also the
largest in the Football Bowl Subdivision
that year. The Crimson Tide had taken
the January-enrollee trend to the next
level, but it was growing everywhere,
especially among Power Five schools.
Georgia, Oklahoma, Clemson, Ohio
State, Texas and Michigan all had seven
or more January enrollees in their re-
cruiting classes in 2017.
Meanwhile, in its Class of 2017, Penn
State had only four January enrollees:
defensive back Lamont Wade, line-
backer Brelin Faison-Walden, receiver
K.J. Hamler and o=ensive lineman Mike
Miranda. The following year, the Lions'
contingent of early arrivals rose to six
players: linebackers Micah Parsons and
Jesse Luketa, defensive end Nick Tar-
burton, cornerback Trent Gordon, tight
end Zack Kuntz and safety Isaiah
Humphries.
