career points with 129. Sucese passed David Goodwin, who finished his career with 128 points. As of mid-January, Sucese was leading the Nittany Lions (and, for that matter, the Big Ten) in points – something he's never done before in his career – with 27. SOMETHING EXTRA AT STAKE There's a boost waiting for the Lions in the NCAA tournament, provided they get there. Penn State is set to host the Midwest Regional at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pa., for the third season in a row. If the Nittany Lions are part of the field, they'll play in front of their home fans. It's a bonus that Penn State hasn't been able to cash in as of yet. The Lions were bounced in the first round in 2018 by Denver and failed to make the field last year. With the Midwest Regional set to move across the country to North Dakota in 2021, Penn State has just one chance left to grab an NCAA tournament win in friendly territory. ■ HUB-Robeson Center, On-Campus MEN'S ICE HOCKEY First-period flurry lifts PSU to win in nonconference finale Penn State needed all of 13 seconds to distance itself from a recent o7en- sive cold stretch in a dominating win over Robert Morris. Sam Sternschein redirected a point shot from Cole Hults home in the game's 6rst minute, and the Nittany Lions (16-6) cruised to a 6-2 win Jan. 11 in Pittsburgh. The 6rst 20 minutes contained all the scoring Penn State would need to ride out a win at PPG Paints Arena. A8er Sternschein's tally, the Lions kept the pressure on. Connor MacEachern one-timed a puck by Colonials netminder Justin Kapel- master about a minute later to double Penn State's lead. From there, the Lions received a pair of scoring contributions from defense- men. Mason Snell scored a tap-in to give PSU a 3-0 lead, then Kris Myllari added a goal from the point. Robert Morris responded well in the second period, beating Peyton Jones twice. But Penn State mitigated that surge with a goal by Max Suave. Only Alex Limoges, making his re- turn from an injury a8er missing four games, scored in the third period. Limoges hit the empty net in the 6nal minute, capping o7 an excellent shut- down period by the Lions. Nate Sucese became Penn State's all-time leading scorer with a three- assist night. Heading into a two-game series against Michigan in mid-Janu- ary, he had 129 points for his career, surpassing David Goodwin's mark of 128. –D.E.
