www.BLUEANDGOLD.com APRIL 2020 45 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP RECRUITING NOTES • Notre Dame is working hard to put together a big-time defensive back haul in the 2021 class. The Irish staff, led by special teams coordinator Brian Polian and safeties coach Terry Joseph, has extended a few new 2021 defensive back offers, and new cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens also will start to get involved with many of the targets. Joseph offered College Park (Ga.) Woodward Academy's Khari Gee, a 6-3, 190-pounder who is ranked as the No. 8 safety and No. 218 over- all prospect in the country by Rivals. Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Michigan and Oklahoma have also offered him. During a phone conversation with Polian, Austin (Texas) Lyndon B. Johnson's Andrew Mukuba, who Rivals ranks as the No. 64 pros- pect in the Lone Star State and No. 36 safety in the nation, picked up a tender from the Irish. Notre Dame joined Alabama, Auburn, Okla- homa, Texas and other on Mukuba's offer list. Fort Smith (Ark.) Northside cornerback Drey- den Norwood, the No. 2 recruit in Arkansas and No. 46 athlete nationally per Rivals, had been receiving interest from Notre Dame for the past couple of months and was offered by the Irish March 2. • La Jolla (Calif.) The Bishop's School quarter- back and Notre Dame commit Tyler Buchner was invited to the prestigious Rivals Five-Star Chal- lenge following his performance at the Los An- geles Rivals Camp Series stop March 1. There will be eight quarterbacks in attendance at the event, and Buchner — who is listed as the No. 2 dual- threat quarterback and No. 43 overall player in the country per Rivals — is one of the first two prospects at his position to receive the invite. Los Angeles Loyola's Ceyair Wright, a big Notre Dame target who is rated as the No. 5 athlete and No. 119 overall prospect nationally by Rivals, also received an invite to the Five-Star Challenge. • New Carlisle (Ind.) New Prairie quarterback Chase Ketterer announced his commitment to the Notre Dame football program Feb. 27 as a preferred walk-on prospect in the 2020 class. The 6-1, 195-pounder will come to Notre Dame as one of the most productive dual-threat quarterbacks in the Hoosier State. He rushed 751 times for 5,494 yards and 98 touchdowns, while adding 1,494 yards and 17 touchdowns through the air from 2017-19 for the Cougars. Ketterer was named the 2019 Indiana High School Athletic Association Northern Indiana Conference North football MVP. He was also se- lected for the NIC North all-conference first team. Ketterer was offered by Valparaiso in Decem- ber and had several other schools interested in him throughout the recruiting process.
