Honors: MacNeil was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Championships … Freshman Kaitlynn Sims was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year … Five Wolverines were named All-Big Ten first team: Carter, MacNeil, junior Claire Maiocco, junior Daria Pyshnenko and fifth-year senior Miranda Tucker. U-M also had three named to the All-Big Ten second team: senior Vanessa Krause, sophomore Victoria Kwan and junior Sierra Schmidt. Notable: U-M was ranked No. 5 in the country at the end of the season … U-M finished second at the Big Ten Championships on Feb. 22, with eight Wolverines winning conference titles … Nine swimmers earned berths to the NCAA Championships, while seven divers were looking to qualify before the Zone Diving Championships were cancelled. Men's Tennis (14-3, 1-0 Big Ten) Best Performance — Win over No. 4 Texas: U-M defeated the Longhorns 4-2 Feb. 15 at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, winning all three singles matches. MVP — Sophomore Andrew Fenty: He was ranked No. 16 by the ITA in singles and No. 2 in doubles. Seven of his 11 wins were against ranked oppo- nents. He finished with a singles record of 17-9 and a doubles mark of 25-5. Notable: At the end of the season, Michigan was ranked No. 5 in the nation … U-M's lone Big Ten contest this sea- son was a 5-0 victory over Penn State. Women's Tennis (5-6, 0-0 Big Ten) Best Performance — Victory over No. 24 Florida Feb. 4: U-M defeated the Gators in dominating fashion, win- ning five of six first sets to notch a 4-0 win. MVP — Senior Giulia Pairone: She was ranked No. 30 in the ITA singles rankings and had a 13-13 record in sin- gles matches. Honors: Junior Alyvia Jones was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week on Feb. 11 after a 3-0 singles and 2-0 doubles week at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. Notable: U-M finished the season at No. 16 in the country … U-M faced nine ranked opponents in the non-confer- ence slate. Men's Track and Field Best Performance — First-place fin- ish at the Simmons-Harvey Invite: U-M topped Michigan State and Ohio State while hosting the invitational. U-M notched 126 points in the win, with Ohio State (113) finishing second and Michigan State (53) third. MVP — Fifth-year senior thrower Andrew Liskowitz: He set the school record in the shot put with a throw of 21.02 meters, winning his second straight Big Ten title in the event. Honors: Liskowitz was named Re- gional Field Athlete of the Year for the indoor season, becoming the second ever in U-M history to win the award. Notable: Liskowitz and senior thrower Manning Plater qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships, before it was cancelled. Women's Track and Field Best Per formance — Fifth-place finish at the Big Ten Indoor Champi- onships: U-M had five medal-winning performances in the championships, including gold medal-winning perfor- mances from sophomore distance run- ner Aurora Rynda in the 600 meters and a distance medley relay. U-M scored 70 points and was just four shy of fourth place. MVP — Aurora Rynda: She won the gold medal at the Big Ten Champion- ships in the 600-meter for the second straight season behind a career-best 1:28.38 performance. She also was part of the distance medley relay team that took home a Big Ten title. Notable: Junior Alice Hill, junior Chloe Foster, Rynda and fifth-year senior Meg Darmofal qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the distance medley relay, before the championships were cancelled. The quartet won the school's 14th conference title in the event since 2003. Water Polo (11-8, 0-0 CWPA) Best Performance — 11-10 over- time victory over No. 7 California: U-M notched a top-10 win behind two clutch goals. Freshman Anne Rankin tied the game with three seconds left in regulation to force overtime, before sophomore Erin Neustrom scored the game-winning marker with 1:49 to play in the overtime period. MVP — Junior Maddie O'Reilly: She led the team in three major offensive categories with 70 points, 36 goals and 34 assists on the season. Notable: U-M ended the season ranked No. 7 nationally. Wrestling (7-6, 5-4 Big Ten) Best Performance — 21-16 win over No. 23 Rutgers at Madison Square Garden: It took sophomore heavy- weight Mason Parris' first-period pin to swing the score in U-M's favor, 21- 16, to cap off a victory over the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers was winning by one when the big man took the mat in the final match of the dual. MVP — Mason Parris: He notched a team-high 61 dual points on the season, with a 28-1 overall record. His lone loss came in the Big Ten heavy- weight championship match, and he was ranked second nationally at the conclusion of the season. Notable: Parris qualified for the NCAA Championships (before cancel- lation), earning the No. 2 seed in the heavyweight division … Seven total Wolverines qualified for the champi- onships: Parris, redshirt junior Kanen Storr (No. 10 seed at 149 pounds), red- shirt freshman Will Lewan (No. 10 at 157), redshirt sophomore Jack Medley (No. 14 at 125), senior Tyler Meisinger (No. 33 at 165), redshirt sophomore Jelani Embree (No. 26 at 184) and fifth- year senior Jackson Striggow (No. 27 at 197) … U-M finished the season ranked No. 22 in the country. ❑ Before the season was cancelled, sopho- more Andrew Fenty was ranked No. 16 by the ITA in singles and No. 2 in doubles.
