P R E G A M E β€ˆ R E P O R T B L U E – W H I T E N O O N , A P R I L 2 0 G A M E B T N STADIUM ALERT In response to the bombings in Boston on April 15, Penn State officials are increasing security for the Blue-White Game on Saturday. Fans attending the game in Beaver Stadium will not be permitted to bring in bags, backpacks, purses, umbrellas, footballs, strollers or diaper bags. The university asks anyone with a medical need to place their medical supplies in a clear, one gallon zipclose-style plastic pag. Steve Manuel TIME OF THE SEASON The slate is clean and hopes are high as Penn State rolls into the Blue-White Game TIMβ€ˆ OWEN Ah, spring. It's a precious season on the football calendar. There are no notches in the loss column. Each new starter seems to have unlimited potential. And, after months of behindthe-scenes workouts, fans finally get to see their team in action again. At Penn State, the Blue-While Game offers a host of enticing storylines, even though several key players will A P R I L | OW E N. T I M . B W I @ G M A I L . C O M be watching from the sideline for precautionary reasons, and even though the Nittany Lions' main concern on Saturday will be to come out of the game without any new injuries. Like the team's fans, coach Bill O'Brien is hoping to learn a little about some of his newcomers and settle a few position battles along the way. The brightest spotlight will be on 1 7 , 2 0 1 3 1 quarterbacks Steven Bench and Tyler Ferguson as they file into Beaver Stadium. Each will be trying to separate himself just enough to earn starter consideration heading into the summer – though a final decision likely won't be made until after incoming freshman Christian Hackenberg arrives.
