Notre Dame honored the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings during
its Blue-Gold Game by wearing helmet decals that featured a "B" in blue and
yellow, the race's official colors. The 31,652 fans at the annual scrimmage stood
in a moment of silence prior to kickoff.
"Terrible day," said head coach Brian Kelly, a Boston-area native. "Not only the
tragedy of the loss of life and the injured, but it shakes you when that kind of
private holiday that is so much Boston is shattered. It's going to be hard. A lot
of people are going to need some time to get over this."
The Irish baseball, softball and lacrosse teams also wore the Boston decals on
their helmets during the weekend.
