MAY/JUNE 2020 ■ 9 TRACKING THE PACK region's athlete of the year by the coaches, but he will be used as a full-time running back this season. The fifth and final commitment thus far of the spring came from heralded three-star quarterback Aaron McLaughlin from Den- mark High in Alpharetta, Ga. The one-time Auburn pledge announced for NC State May 14. McLaughlin originally picked the Tigers last July, and when he opened it back up in February, he noted every coach on the Wolf- pack staff contacted him within 10 minutes. "This is definitely a different decision. North Carolina State is the school for me, and I know that," he said. "They push aca- demics. They have great history with quar- terbacks. They push players to be better men, not just football players. I know North Caro- lina State is definitely the school for me." As a junior, McLaughlin completed 134 of 220 passes for 2,018 yards with 17 touchdowns and seven picks in 10 games while also rushing for 284 yards and nine scores. He helped Denmark go 7-3 in its second year in existence. At a Nike Elite 11 Regional camp, he checked in at 6-5, 219 pounds and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.71 seconds and the shuttle in 4.33 seconds while registering a 36.4-inch vertical leap. A very good Nike Rating is anything above 100. McLaugh- lin's rating was a 119.19. Arkansas, Baylor, Louisville and Mi- ami were among the teams that pursued McLaughlin after he decommitted from Auburn. Rivals.com rates him as the No. 24 prospect from Georgia and the No. 21 pro- style quarterback in the country. ■ Huntersville (N.C.) Hopewell wide receiver Julian Gray, a three-star recruit and the No. 28 player in North Carolina according to Rivals.com, picked the Wolfpack over Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech.
