JUNE/JULY 2020 THE WOLVERINE 37 2 0 2 0 B A S K E T B A L L R E C R U I T I N G I S S U E Duke, UNC, Villanova and Virginia, but Michigan could have a chance if it decides to place a priority on him in the coming months and Keels is willing to keep his recruitment open until the fall." CHET HOLMGREN 7-0 • 190 • C Minneapolis Minnehaha Academy Rivals' No. 4 2021 prospect Holmgren picked up an offer in May and announced it on Twitter. He is thin for a seven-footer, but he is also unbelievably skilled. "Definitely Minne- sota, Gonzaga, George- town, Memphis, North Carolina and Ohio State, and then one or two others," Holmgren said of his list in mid-April, before receiv- ing his U- M offer. "… I definitely am going to try and see Memphis, UNC and get out to Georgetown again. From there, I would have figured out next year later on." At least one of the "one or two oth- ers" turned out to be Michigan, a school he said was prioritizing him the most along with the others. Holmgren has officially visited Gonzaga and Ohio State, and taken an unofficial to Georgetown. He has done Zoom virtual meetings with Georgetown, Memphis, Michigan and North Carolina. He reportedly plans to cut his list in early fall and to decide in late winter or early spring. H i s f a t h e r, D a v e H o l m g re n , played basketball at Minnesota from 1984-88. MICHAEL FOSTER 6-9 • 220 • PF Phoenix Hillcrest Rivals' No. 9 2021 prospect Foster plays with Mac Irvin Fire out of Chicago, a program Howard is close with. Georgia, though, appears to be the leader here, while Florida State is also re- cruiting him hard. Getting him on cam- pus would be the first step for Michigan. "He fits the modern-day model for what you want out of a four man. When his jumper is falling, he puts up huge scoring totals and is so ver- satile," Evans reported. "He'll always rebound the ball and has a nose for the rim." Foster averaged 24.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game at Hillcrest. He has denied rumors he will go di- rectly to the G League, and while Ari- zona, USC, Michigan and Milwaukee are involved, he seems most likely to play in the Southeast. PATRICK BALDWIN JR. 6-9 • 205 • SF Sussex (Wis.) Hamilton Rivals' No. 3 2021 prospect Baldwin, the Gatorade Player of the Year in Wisconsin, averaged 24.3 points and 10.8 rebounds per game for his 22-3 Hamilton squad. He trimmed his list to 10 — Duke, Georgetown, Kentucky, Milwaukee, North Caro- lina, Northwestern, UCLA, Virginia and Wisconsin, in ad- dition to Michigan — and he's reportedly going to cut it at least once more before de- ciding, though he has no timetable and could sign early or late. "Duke, Kentucky, Milwaukee and North Carolina look to be in the best shape in Baldwin's recruitment, though Northwestern or Virginia could be a dark horse," Evans wrote. "It wouldn't be a surprise if this came down to the Blue Devils and the Panthers, as Milwaukee employs Baldwin's father, Pat Baldwin Sr., as its head coach." It's the rare recruit who doesn't go play for his dad when he gets the chance. ❏ Use Promo Code Blue60 TheWolverine.com Your No. 1 Resource for extensive Michigan Basketball recruiting coverage Recruiting Scoop Breaking news, team and individual rankings, features on every commitment, over 10 years of archived recruiting information.
