JUNE/JULY 2020 THE WOLVERINE 47   MICHIGAN RECRUITING Wolverines from going after more talent this cycle. Over the last month, Michigan has still been busy at a few positions, including tight end. While the Wol- verines hold a commitment from Rivals100 prospect Louis Hansen at the position, they would still like to add one more before National Sign- ing Day. Rivals100 recruit Thomas Fidone remains a top target, but Michigan is making secondary options as well. The Wolverines extended scholar- ships to a pair of three-star tight ends in Little Rock (Ark.) Parkview's Erin Outley and Charlotte (N.C.) South Mecklenburg's Bryson Nesbit. Both will be tough pulls for the Wolverines. Nesbit is the son of for- mer South Carolina offensive line- man and Super Bowl champion Ja- mar Nesbit. It's likely that he follows in his father's footsteps and ends up playing for the Gamecocks. Mean- while, the early buzz is Outley will likely stay in the South. Michigan does not have a running back committed this cycle. All eyes are on Rivals100 West Bloomfield (Mich.) High's Donovan Edwards, but he doesn't want to make a deci- sion until December, and the Wol- verines would like two ball carriers in the class. Austin (Texas) Del Valle's Tavierre Dunlap recently notched an offer from Michigan and is quickly rising up the recruiting board. The three- star recruit also holds offers from Cal, Nebraska, Minnesota, Texas Tech, USC and others. Michigan also threw its hat in the ring for Rivals250 Miami Central's Amari Daniels. It will be tough to make headway for Daniels since he is considered a Texas A&M lean, but Michigan is looking to get him on campus following the dead period. U-M already holds commitments from three offensive linemen ranked among the nation's top 150, but all three project best in the interior. Finding a true left tackle is a priority for the Wolverines, so it's no surprise they recently offered San Luis Obispo (Calif.) High's Thomas Cole. A three-star prospect, Cole has drawn comparisons to 2020 Michigan tackle signee Jeffrey Persi thanks to his 6-7, 260-pound frame. Talks with Cole are just starting, but Michigan presents an intriguing opportunity. TRISTAN BOUNDS TAKES A DEAD-PERIOD VISIT Tristan Bounds couldn't wait until the dead period was over. With the recruiting clock ticking and a potential summer decision coming, the three-star 2021 offensive tackle felt like he needed to see Mich- igan and Notre Dame — two of his finalists — for the first time before taking the next step in the process. So Bounds and his family jumped in the car and drove from the DMV to the Midwest to check out both campuses. Bounds, of course, was unable to chat with the Michigan coaching staff due to the aforementioned dead pe- riod. However, he did spend a few hours on campus and around Ann Arbor. It may not have been the full visit experience, but Bounds came away impressed. " M i c h i g a n w a s s u p e r c o o l , " Bounds said. "I had never been there, so I didn't know what to expect. I re- ally like Ann Arbor. The university was really cool. It was a really beau- tiful campus. I was there for two to three hours." Michigan director of recruiting Matt Dudek actually helped Bounds draw up a self-guided tour of cam- pus, which gave him a bit more in- sight into U-M. "Obviously, they can't see you or talk to you while you're there be- cause it's a dead period," Bounds said. "But they were able to give me guidance like a map of campus and insider stuff like places to eat and that type of deal." Along with Michigan and Notre Dame, Bounds is still considering Boston College, Maryland, Vander- bilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Texas. Rivals.com ranks the 6-8, 280- pound Bounds as the No. 5 prospect in Connecticut. ❑ Despite the coronavirus-induced dead period, three-star offensive lineman Tristan Bounds recently took unofficial visits to Michigan and Notre Dame, two of his finalists.
