econd-year men's swimming and
diving coach Braden Holloway is
just being honest when he says
he didn't expect the Wolfpack to
achieve this much this fast. After placing
fifth in the ACC during Holloway's debut
campaign, the Pack duplicated that finish the second time around, but moved
up to just 100 points out of second place,
whereas the team finished 200 points be-
hind the fourth-place squad last year. If that
wasn't enough tangible progress, the Pack
placed 15th at the NCAA Championships
— the best finish for any ACC squad this
year and the school's best national placement since 1978-79 (11th).
Holloway notes the rebuilding process
has been fast-tracked to success, thanks to
his coaching staff. In particular, the men's
team laid a solid foundation in 2012 and
continued to improve on it this season.
"I think the guys and the coaches were
able to work as a unit pretty well," he
said. "Obviously, some things fell our way
throughout it, but when doors opened, we
walked through them, instead of being passive and not taking initiative. If something
opened up, our guys went after it and conquered it."
Returning the Pack to its tradition —
which features a league-best 24 ACC
championships — was a main focal point
