any football coaches
can almost seem des-
tined for their careers,
but that is especially
true for new NC State
offensive coordinator
and quarterbacks coach
Tim Beck.
Beck is a product of Cardinal Mooney
High School in Youngstown, Ohio. It is
a town and school that eats, sleeps and
breathes football. When Beck was a junior,
a class above him was Carl Pelini. Mark
Stoops was a sophomore, and Bo Pelini a
freshman. Mike Stoops was a recent gradu-
ate. The Pelinis actually lived just a few
houses down from the Becks.
If the names sound familiar, they are all
college football coaches like Beck. Mark
Stoops has been the head coach at Kentucky
since 2013. Bo Pelini went 67-27 in eight
seasons at Nebraska. Mike Stoops coached
Arizona from 2004-11, won 41 games and
went to three straight bowls from 2008-10.
Carl Pelini was Florida Atlantic's coach for
two years.
Beck described Youngstown as "a steel
mill town built on hard work" with a pas-
sion for football.
"When you were a kid, football is what you
did," Beck recalled. "You went down in the

Beck boasts 32 years of coaching experience, including 21 on the
collegiate level and 12 as an offensive coordinator. He has worked at
Kansas, Nebraska, Ohio State and, most recently, Texas.
