RISING STAR This may be a reach,
since we don't actually know who will
be returning kickoffs this season. But
we're eager to see Holmes get a shot.
The true freshman running back was
an outstanding kick returner at Cocoa
(Fla.) High. If the coaches are looking
for a way to get him on the field, the
special teams would appear to offer a
path to early playing time. He's got
three very talented players ahead of
him in the backfield, and they figure to
be getting most of the carries this sea-
son. But Holmes could still end up
making a big impact as a return spe-
cialist.
Another player who has gotten some
attention as a potential kick returner is
Parsons. A standout two-way player in
high school, he certainly has the athletic
credentials to do the job. And who
knows, maybe this is a real possibility.
The news that the All-America line-
backer was supposedly under considera-
tion didn't come from the rumor mill or
from some jokey aside at the end of a
media availability. It came from a docu-
ment released by Penn State's sports in-
formation o
