THE BIG PICTURE
SETTING THE EXAMPLE
In his debut season as head coach
in 1918, Knute Rockne saw his
Notre Dame team finish only 3-1-2
after the entire October football
schedule was canceled during the
Spanish Flu epidemic. It resulted in
the loss of approximately 675,000
lives in the United States.
Just more than 100 years later,
COVID-19 is threatening another
college football season that the
Notre Dame community, among
others throughout the world, are
battling. The mask on Rockne's
statue by Notre Dame Stadium
symbolizes the teamwork needed
to overcome once again in 2020 and
the future.
