www.BLUEANDGOLD.com PRESEASON 2020 45 Cutcliffe appears to have put his offensive roster in a better place, and he will call the plays for the first time since he was at Tennessee more than 20 years ago. Kelly, meanwhile, slides into a stable football situation in roster and staff, though the times are very unstable because of the pandemic. These coaches have split two meetings at their respective schools — a 38-35 Cutcliffe win at Notre Dame Stadium in 2016 and a 38-7 Kelly win at Duke last season. Advantage: Notre Dame INTANGIBLES Notre Dame enters this game riding a six-game winning streak and holding a No. 10 ranking in the preseason Associated Press poll after an 11-2 cam- paign in 2019. Duke lost five of its final six games in 2019, three of those by 31 points or more. The Fighting Irish have a third-year starting quar- terback in Book, while Duke isn't exactly sure who its opening-day quarterback will be. Add to the equation the lost spring season for a Duke team with many holes to fill on its offense, and Notre Dame's experience advantage on that side of the ball is also worth noting. And with the threat of COVID-19 looming and the likelihood that players from both teams will have to sit this game out, depth might be Notre Dame's greatest advantage.
