SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2020 ■ 9 TRACKING THE PACK to NC State over finalists South Carolina and Virginia Tech. The 6-0, 215-pounder is listed by Rivals.com as the No. 33 prospect in North Carolina, while 247Sports lists him as a four-star recruit and the No. 63 overall recruit in the country. He has been selected to play in the All-American Game at San Antonio in January. West Stanly head coach Brett Morton said that Poole is "as fast as most safeties, but he's as big as an outside linebacker." Poole has been timed at 11.04 seconds in the 100-meter dash in track and field. In three seasons at West Stanly, Poole has rushed for 3,133 yards while averaging 8.5 yards a carry and scored 38 times. As a ju- nior, he produced 1,534 yards and 22 touch- downs on the ground, plus caught 31 passes for 487 yards and four scores. Defensively, Poole had 36 tackles (4.5 for loss), one inter- ception and one fumble recovery as a junior. Poole plays primarily running back and safety for West Stanly. "In order for me to put our best 11 on the field last year, I needed him to play safety," Morton explained. "… Jordan is going to be okay wherever you put him." Poole helped West Stanly — which was 3-8 when he was a freshman — go 8-3 last fall. "From a coach's standpoint, a guy like Jordan makes me look good," Morton added. "People can say anything they want to about coaching, but if you don't have the dudes to get it done, it doesn't matter who you are." As of Sept. 2, NC State had 17 verbal commitments in the 2021 class. ■ New NC State pledge Jordan Poole is ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 63 overall senior in the country by 247Sports.
