he season's ;rst practice was only
three hours away when the Penn
State men's soccer team learned that the
Big Ten had called o< all fall sports due to
the COVID-19 pandemic. Coach Je<
Cook and his players had known all along
that their season was in jeopardy, but
when the postponement went from an
abstraction to a reality in early August, it
was a sobering mo-
ment for the Nittany
Lions.
"I wouldn't say that
we were shocked,"
Cook told GoPSU-
sports.com. "You're
preparing yourself for
that, and in your mind
you're trying to assess
the possibilities. Can
we really do this? How can we really [play]
this season? Are we going to be meeting
at neutral sites with multiple teams? So
you're prepared for it, but once you actu-
ally hear the news, it's a totally di
