NOVEMBER 2020 THE WOLVERINE 11   INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS MICHIGAN'S TOP PERFORMERS Women's swimming and diving commit Malia Amuan: On Sept. 29, she committed to Michigan for the fall of 2022. Amuan is a member of Phoenix Swimming at North Andover (Mass.) High School. She shined as a sophomore at the 2019 Speedo Winter Junior Championships — East, making the finals in both the 200 freestyle (1:48.55) and the 200 individual medley (2:03.16). Amuan's success dates back to her freshman high school cam- paign as well, where she won both the 100 and 200 freestyle at the Massachusetts Division 1 High School State Championships. Football fifth-year senior punter Will Hart: On Oct. 1, he was named one of 199 semi- finalists for the 2020 William V. Camp- bell Trophy, which recognizes the "best football scholar athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership." The list will be cut to 12-14 finalists in November, and each finalist will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. The winner will take home a $25,000 schol- arship. Hart was named the Big Ten's Punter of the Year in 2018, after he averaged 47.0 yards per attempt, which was good for the single-season Michigan record. The fifth-year senior averaged 44.2 yards per boot last fall, the fourth-best single-season mark in U-M history. Former ice hockey defenseman Griffin Luce: On Sept. 28, he signed a pro contract with the Rapid City Rush, an affiliate of the NHL's Arizona Coyotes. Luce com- peted in 131 games during his career as a Wolverine (2016-20), concluding with three goals and 11 assists. The Williamsville, N.Y., native led U-M with 74 blocked shots in 2018-19 and ap- peared in 34 outings during the club's 2017-18 run to the Frozen Four. Luce capped off his Michigan tenure in 2019-20 by earning alternate captain status and racking up four assists with 60 blocked shots. Football redshirt junior linebacker Adam Shib- ley: On Sept. 23, he was named to the 2020 Allstate American Football Coaches Associa- tion Good Works Team, which honors collegiate players for their off-the-field achievements and contributions to their communities. Shibley was the lone Big Ten player to make the squad. In 2018, he founded The Uniform Fund- ing Foundation (TUFF), which is a non- profit organization that provides gear, uniforms and equipment to youth sports teams from low-income areas. The redshirt junior is also a member of the Big Ten Anti-Racism and Anti-Hate Coalition. — Austin Fox Getting To Know Women's Basketball Junior Guard Amy Dilk Women's basketball junior guard Amy Dilk began her Michigan career with a bang in 2018-19, starting 29 games and finishing with the second-most assists (137) any U-M freshman had ever racked up in a single campaign. The Carmel, Ind., na- tive built off that suc- cess as a sophomore in 2019-20, starting all 32 contests and aver- aging 11.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.5 as- sists per game. She also earned All-Big Ten second-team honors from the coaches while leading Michigan to a 21-11 record. Here are a few other interesting facts you may not have known about her: Nickname: "Everyone called me Dilk in high school. It's a mix- ture of both Amy and Dilk here at Michigan, along with Big Dilk." Favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor: "It's not traditional, but I'd have to go with No Thai!" Best meal she can cook by herself: "Some type of pasta dish." Hobbies: "I've been getting into golf recently. I wouldn't say I'm good, but I did a lot of it during quarantine. I like being outdoors, going to the pool, hanging out with friends and going shopping." Favorite TV show: "'Money Heist.' It's my ultimate favorite show right now on Netflix." Favorite movie: "I actually don't watch that many movies." Dream vacation: "I'd love to go to the Caribbean. I'm a big beach person and definitely prefer it over the mountains." Favorite place she's been to: "Mexico. I went there for spring break during my senior year of high school." Favorite professional athlete: "[Guard] Tyler Herro, who is with the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals." Role model: "My parents, for sure. I'd say my four older siblings as well." Why she chose Michigan: "I chose it because of the city itself, as well as the academics here. I also knew Michigan would help me succeed in whatever I want to do after I graduate. It can help me get connections and allow me to be the best player I can be." What she hopes to do after basketball: "I recently declared my major in sports management. I'll have to next figure out whether or not I want to play professionally. This year will likely decide that for me. If I don't play professionally, I'll look into job opportunities." Her overall experience at Michigan: "It has been very memo- rable. Every day has been a new memory here." — Austin Fox Dilk averaged 11.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game last year en route to second-team All-Big Ten honors from the coaches.
