Reaching New Heights John Beilein And His Staff's Recruiting Efforts Continue To Take Off F By Chris Balas ollowing a 10-22 season in head coach John Beilein's first season, former Michigan assistant Jerry Dunn told several dozen people or so at the annual awards banquet what they all hoped and expected — the best was yet to come. Beilein was a builder, Dunn said, and it was only a matter of time before U-M had a program it could be proud of. A year later, the Wolverines were in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in more than a decade. Six years later, they were a play (or call) or two away from a national title, falling to Louisville in the championship game. Once dingy and poorly lit Crisler Arena is now one of the best college basketball venues in the country. And the recruiting? It's now on par with some of the best programs in the country. "The people we're recruiting against have certainly changed in the last couple years," Beilein said, noting the buzz around the program had reached fever pitch. Beilein's class of 2013 recruiting haul, a three-man group that includes two top-50 players, was rated No. 12 nationally by Rivals.com. photo by per kjeldsen
