now ranks 26th in career rushing with 1,649 yards on 276 carries. If Sanders had not decided to turn pro before his senior year, he might have become an All- American in 2019, but then Brown would not have enjoyed the breakthrough sea- son that he put together last fall. THE DINOSAURS CARL FORKUM IRISH McILVEEN 1902-04 This tandem is noted by historians as one of the greatest in PSU history. Forkum's s 38 points against Pitt in 1903 and several other of his exploits, includ- ing the longest kicko3 return for a touch- down, during his three years should be team records but are not o4cially listed. McIlveen was one of Penn State's best all-around athletes of his generation. He was known as a "crackerjack" runner who "wasn't afraid to mix it up" with op- posing players on o3ense and defense. PETE MAUTHE SHORTY MILLER 1911-12 Mauthe was the captain and fullback, with Miller serving as the quarterback on the undefeated 1911 and '12 teams that some NCAA historians have o4cially rec- ognized as national champions. Mauthe set the Penn State single-season scoring record in 1912 with 119 points; that mark stood for 59 years and is still ninth in the record book. He was the 1rst Penn State player enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame in 1957. Miller, best known by his nickname "Shorty," was 5-foot-5, 140 pounds, stocky and fast with a 2am- boyant style in which he would spin, twist and sidestep tacklers. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1974.
