were just so many examples today of who we've been for seven years now. We found ways to do it today. The earlier games, we didn't do that. We made a play when we needed to make a play. … It was great to see. They stood in the corner and took body blows and head shots, and they kept swinging." Clifford's performance was especially gratifying, coming as it did after weeks of physical punishment and emotional pain. He said he hadn't been in his flow state much this season, at least before the trip to Michigan. "Last year I was, but after a couple of losses this year, it was tough to find that," he said. "Today I just kind of let loose and had fun with my teammates, and I felt like I was back to being the Sean that I used to be." With any luck, the coming year will see life in general begin getting back to what it used to be. At least two effective COVID-19 vaccines are on pace to be rolled out in the next few months, which means there's a good chance the pan- demic will have significantly abated by the summer. If the country as a whole is better able to deal with the coronavirus, spectator sports may begin to steadily return to their pre-COVID form. And if that happens, maybe the 2021 college football season will seem more like the joyful experience it's supposed to be than the grim trudge that it's sometimes resembled this year. There are a lot of reasons for people to want to forget that 2020 ever happened, to rip that calendar off the wall on Dec. 31, light it on fire, bury the ashes some- where in the backyard and hope they don't end up poisoning the grass. It would be nice to make a clean break, but it's more likely that the return to nor- malcy will be incremental, a step-by- step process in which medical advances gain widespread acceptance and drive down infection rates to the point where the kind of public gatherings that every- one used to take for granted are possible once again. For all of us – not just elite college athletes – that means going with the flow and taking proactive steps to ensure that it leads someplace better. ■ LT Rasheed Walker Will Fries Des Holmes LG Mike Miranda Des Holmes Sal Wormley C Michal Menet Mike Miranda Juice Scruggs RG Will Fries C.J.
