JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2021 ■ 45 BY JUSTIN H. WILLIAMS ifth-year senior guard Devon Daniels isn't afraid to speak up when his teammates need a push in the right direction. Now in his fourth season at NC State and his fifth playing college basketball at the Power Five level, the 6-5, 200-pounder provides a mature option in head coach Kevin Keatts' youthful group of guards that includes three freshmen. "Every team needs a couple of those players," Daniels said. "A lot of guys don't like to ruffle the feathers, so they'll try to go around the point. I just try to provide a dose of reality. "If my teammates need help making reads, I ask them what they're seeing, then as an older guy I'll tell them what the right read is." Daniels isn't the only upperclassman guard on the 2020-21 roster. He's also joined by senior Braxton Beverly and red- shirt junior Thomas Allen, a transfer from Nebraska that sat out last season. But Daniels doesn't see himself simply as a leader to the younger players, he's also known to talk things through with some of the experienced guys. A transfer himself, Daniels knows how it F Daniels ranked fourth on the team in scoring (12.7 points per game) and third in rebounding (5.3 boards per contest) last year, and will be counted on to produce even more this season as one of just three seniors on the Wolfpack roster.
