FAN FUN
One of the most notable changes the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to
the UVA athletics landscape is the impact of very few fans at John Paul Jones
Arena for home basketball games. The usually raucous atmosphere has been
replaced by a setting more like a scrimmage.
The addition of fan cardboard cutouts to the lower arena seating has added
an interesting element to the games. More than 1,500 cutouts were purchased
this season by fans and include a fun variety of attendees to the home games.
There's plenty of fan shots, kids, animals and former UVA legends sprinkled
around the arena. The level of fans' creativity has been impressive.
Many of the cutouts have a great backstory. UVA website writer Jeff White
took a look at how some fans arrived at their cutout decisions. Check out his
article at VirginiaSports.com.
