WOMEN'S TENNIS 2-1 OVERALL, 2-0 BIG TEN Michigan opened conference action Feb. 13 with a 7-0 victory versus Rut- gers … The Wolverines' 5-2 triumph over Maryland Feb. 14 stretched their regular-season conference win streak to 16 matches. MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD Fifth-year senior distance runner Devin Meyrer ran the 5,000-meter event in a career-best 13:52.83 Feb. 12 at the Spire Invitational in Geneva, Ohio, which is the ninth-best mark in the dis- tance in U-M indoor history. WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD Sophomore distance runner Ericka VanderLende finished the 5,000-me- ter run in a career-best 15:48.88 at the Big Ten Spire Invitational Feb. 12 in Geneva, Ohio, which was good for the second-best mark in U-M history be- hind only Erin Finn (15:23.16) … Fresh- man sprinter Ziyah Holman won the 400 meters in Geneva in 53.77, which was the third-fastest debut in the event by a female athlete in school history. VOLLEYBALL 0-2 OVERALL, 0-2 BIG TEN U-M saw its first six matches of the season postponed due to the school's two-week pause … A Jan. 28 contest against Michigan State in East Lansing was rescheduled for Feb. 17, represent- ing the only postponed outing that has been confirmed to be made up … U-M dropped consecutive 3-1 matches to Purdue Feb. 13-14 in its first two con- tests back following the school's two- week pause. WATER POLO Michigan had its first four contests of the year postponed and its ensuing two canceled as a result of the school's two-week shutdown … U-M will kick off its campaign Feb. 20 at home against Indiana and Salem University. WRESTLING 4-1 OVERALL, 4-1 BIG TEN Michigan took down No. 12 Ohio State 18-16 Feb. 12 in its first matchup follow- ing the school's two-week pause … Red- shirt sophomore Will Lewan sealed the dual on a 3-3 double-overtime decision on 44 seconds of riding time … Redshirt freshman Cameron Amine picked up an upset win over No. 6-ranked Nittany Lion Joe Lee at 165 pounds Feb. 14 at Crisler Center, though U-M fell 18-13 to No. 3 Penn State. — Austin Fox FIELD HOCKEY PREVIEW The Wolverines' campaign opens Feb. 26 and Feb. 27 in Virginia Beach, Va., against Penn State and Ohio State … Junior midfielder Kathryn Peterson, a second-team All- Big Ten honoree a year ago, is the team's leading returning point scorer (19 last season) … Junior goalkeeper Anna Spieker also comes back after allowing just 1.08 goals per game and earning a second-team All-Big Ten nod. MEN'S LACROSSE PREVIEW The Big Ten announced the first five games of what will be a 10-outing slate for U-M, beginning with a challenge at No. 2-ranked Maryland Feb. 20 before hosting No. 18 Johns Hopkins in the home opener Feb. 27 … Sophomore attacker Josh Zawada headlines returners, with the 6-1, 175-pounder having led the nation in points for a fresh- man with 32 last season, which was also a team high. WOMEN'S LACROSSE PREVIEW U-M will play a 12-game, Big Ten-only slate starting at Ohio State Feb. 21, before a two-game series at Maryland Feb. 26 and Feb. 28 … The Wolverines' leading scorers from the 2020 season both return in seniors Caitlin Muir (16 goals, 11 assists) and Maggie Kane (12 goals, two assists). MEN'S SOCCER PREVIEW U-M begins its slate Feb. 19 at Northwestern, before the home opener versus Michigan State Feb. 23 … Senior Jackson Ragen was named to the preseason watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is awarded annually to the nation's top overall player … Junior forward Derrick Broche, who was second on the team in points in 2019 (seven goals, three assists), has the most returning offen- sive production on the squad. WOMEN'S SOCCER PREVIEW U-M begins the season at Ohio State Feb. 20, before a two-game homestand against Minnesota Feb. 25 and Wisconsin March 1 … Headlining the team's returners is a pair of MAC Hermann Trophy watch list honorees in senior defender Alia Martin and senior midfielder Sarah Stratigakis … The Wolverines advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament last season, which was their longest postseason run since 2013.
