There is no position in sports more
important than quarterback. While you
have probably heard that a million times
by now, it's an important thing to re-
member. Penn State increased its
chances of er by
some the nation's top schools.
BALL PLACEMENT One of the more un-
derrated aspects of throwing the foot-
ball is throwing a catchable ball.
Veilleux is very good at this. From the
angle that the ball arrives, to the side of
the receiver that it arrives on, Veilleux
makes catching the football easier for
his receiver. Accuracy and ball place-
ment are two of the most important
traits in a high-quality quarterback, and
Veilleux has a very good grasp of them
already.
OFF-SCHEDULE PLAYS Veilleux is also
quite accurate on the run and under pres-
sure. His tape is full of plays in which he
evades immediate pressure, then makes a
the past
three years. Accentuating these throws
and making them a bigger part of his
game will take him to another level.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT Here's the
bad news: Veilleux is not a physical speci-
men at the moment. At 6-foot-4, 200
pounds, he's thin, especially in the ex-
tremities. Here's the good news: That's
going to change now that he's on campus.
While he's not carrying a lot of mass, he
clearly has the frame to add another 20
pounds of muscle while at Penn State.
We've seen what Dwight Galt and his sta=
did for Trace McSorley, Tommy Stevens,
Sean Cli=ord, Will Levis and so on.
POSITIONAL PROJECTION
QUARTERBACK Veilleux is already ath-
letic, but with increased strength come
better movement skills, faster straight-
line speed and possibly a few more RPMs
on his fastball. He has good but not out-
standing arm strength and relies more on
touch than anything to get the ball to the
receiver. Veilleux has clear room for
growth and development physically. It
will be up to him to put in the work in the
weight room, but his ceiling is that of a
complete dual-threat quarterback. ■
and rolling out. Plus, he is a better athlete
than some may realize. Veilleux is capable
of being an e=ective runner o= the read
option. He has 4.67-second 40-yard
speed, and in a limited way he can make
people miss in space. But what really
makes Veilleux a good
