Only three of those squads came away with two wins over top-ranked opponents according to ESPN Stats and Information. Maryland was the first to do it in 2005-06, and Stanford accomplished the feat in 2007-08. Most recently, NC State took down No. 1 twice this season, a first for the sport in 13 years. The Wolfpack first defeated then-ranked No. 1 South Carolina 54-46 in Columbia on Dec. 3, 2020. The Pack followed it up less than two months later with a 74-60 road victory over then-ranked No. 1 Louisville on Feb. 1. NC State's 2020-21 women's basketball team became the first in those last 20 sea- sons to claim both wins over a top-ranked foe on the road and also the first to beat No. 1 twice in the regular season.
