Where did you grow up? "Hickory is where I went to high school. I moved there in eighth grade. My dad was a banker. We moved around North Carolina before that. I lived in Winston-Salem in middle school, Southern Pines in elementary school and High Point the first couple of years. I went to 11 schools in 12 years." What is your main responsibility at the Wolfpack Club? "Being here for 25 years, I am definitely a man of many hats. I did an internship first. I started in gift processing, then worked in membership and dealt with donors on a day-to-day basis. Then I started doing more of the internal operations of managing our rep system, our advertising and our events. Then I began to do some fundraising, that was about year nine. "I had an opportunity to lead my own shop at George Mason University. I took a leap of faith and moved up to Fairfax, Va., with our one-year-old and a wife expecting. "When Stephen Ponder left the Wolfpack Club to go to Arizona State, I had an oppor- tunity to go with Stephen to be his right-hand man out there, and Bobby Purcell reached out to talk to me about coming back to the Wolfpack Club. We made the decision to come back to Raleigh. I have been back since '06, and it's been a quick 15 years." What is your favorite part of the job? "Dealing with all the people. You might go out to a farm and see somebody that has done well in that or meet with an engineer. NC State has produced so many incredible people. Just getting to know them and see what they do on a day-to-day basis is really enriching for me." What other jobs have you had? "When I first graduated from NC State in December of 1992, my first job was with the Hickory Crawdads minor league baseball team. I ran media relations and community relations. That was the first year of that team. They relocated from Gastonia and were building a stadium. I handled their first seat-selection and got in- volved in the community selling tickets." Do you have family? "I have been mar- ried since 1995, almost 26 years, to my wife Tracy Correll. She's from Asheville. Her dad is a NC State graduate as well. My son Carson is a junior at Apex Friendship High School, and my daughter Audrey is an eighth grader at Apex Friendship Middle School." What are your hobbies? "I love being around NC State athletics. We were Disney freaks as a family up until a few years ago. I think we went six or seven times. As the kids have gotten a little older, we have taken trips to some national parks and really en- joyed that. I think that's our next genre for vacations." What is your favorite TV show? "'Breaking Bad.'" Who is your favorite mu- sical artist? "Van Halen. That was my band growing up, and I did shed a tear a few months ago when Eddie passed." What is your favorite res- taurant? "42nd Street Oyster Bar. My brother is the general manager." What is your favorite Wolfpack memory? "Beat- ing Florida State that first time when Torry Holt had his big game [in 1998]." What is something most people don't know about you? "I was the white squad's Mr. Wuf in 1990-91. I did the whole season with no ACL in my right knee. It was a great experience. "I was on NC State's national champion- ship cheerleading squad and made some lifelong friends that I cherish to this day. The team still does an annual trip every spring, and we've gone 21 straight years. "It actually helped me open a door to work at the Wolfpack Club. I did an appear- ance for the Wolfpack Club and met Bobby, who told me to stay in touch with him. I did, and that's how I got the internship when I was going to grad school." ■ WOLFPACK CLUB STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Buzzy Correll, Associate Executive Director Correll — pictured along with son Carson, daughter Audrey and wife Tracy — has worked for the Wolfpack Club for 25 years.
