60 THE WOLVERINE APRIL 2021   BASKETBALL RECRUITING star seven-footer and U-M target Chet Holmgren Feb. 16 and was solid in a nationally televised game. Holmgren, the nation's No. 1 overall player, scored 18 points while Tschet- ter made four triples on his way to 19 points, adding nine rebounds and four assists in an 87-63 loss televised nationally on ESPNU. Tschetter made only 6 of 19 field goals, but he had two triples rim half- way down and out from NBA range, where he took most of his shots. He showed off his ability to put the ball on the floor with a nifty spin dribble and finish past Holmgren, and he nailed three NBA-range treys in the seven-footer's face. "He's humble, hard-working, high- character — just everything you look for and who you want your kids to grow up and be," Stewartville coach Adam Girtman said. MICHIGAN STILL STRONG WITH 2022 TARGETS Michigan is unlikely to add an- other to its 2021 class, with head coach Juwan Howard having turned his attention to the 2022 group. In addition to Jett Howard (6-5, 180, Rivals.com's No. 65 junior nation- ally), Juwan's son and a standout at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy (and yes, a heavy U-M lean), the Wolver- ines are now a strong favorite to add another four-star to its class, as well. That player is Gregg Glenn III (6-7, 210, No. 52) of Pompano Beach (Fla.) Calvary Christian, a versatile player who is still evolving on the offen- sive end. Rivals.com's Jamie Shaw recently interviewed him and put in a prediction for him to wind up with the Wolverines. "I would describe myself as a hard- nosed player. I am versatile," Glenn said. "I can get to the basket when I want. In the paint I can score mul- tiple ways. My shot is getting better, and I am one of the best passers in the country. "I play defense well; I bring energy and excitement to the floor. People say I play like [Golden State War- riors standout] Draymond Green, [the Charlotte Hornets'] PJ Washing- ton and others." Glenn added he is hearing the most from Alabama, Michigan, Arkansas, Miami, Florida and Iowa State, but it's clear Howard and his staff have made an impact. He's also said to be friends with Jett Howard. "They are family up there," Glenn said of U-M. "They have a great pro- gram and work together as a team. They get kids to where they want to go. "They are showing they are re- ally interested in me, and I love that. They've been doing great this season, too. I talk with Coach Juwan a lot." This one is looking good for the Wolverines, but nothing seemed im- minent as of March 15. Glenn insisted he was still exploring all his options. "I kind of want to stay home, but at the same time I don't," he said. "I want to have a great relationship with the coach, and I want an open style of play, one where I am able to just hoop and get better and play for a winning team. "I'm focusing on the season, finish- ing it out. I'm not sure when I want to commit yet." Howard is also looking for another point guard in the class, and he's in on some of the nation's best. One — point guard Dug McDaniel (5-10, 155, No. 67) — has been reported to be closing in on a decision. McDaniel and his Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI team lost to Hyattsville (Md.) De- Matha, 109-107, in Paul VI's last game of the year in late February. McDaniel put up 21 points in the loss, one of the most entertaining games of the year on the national stage. McDaniel now has more time to think about his recruitment. Despite reports that he might be close to a decision, he's decided to take a bit more time. "I'll probably be making it after sum- mer, after I see some schools," he said. Much of it depends on COVID re- strictions, of course, but he's hopeful. He also continues to maintain a strong relationship with Michigan. "It's gone very well. I'm still in con- tact with them a lot," he said in late February. "I talk to Coach Howard probably twice a week, and coach [Phil] Martelli texts me every day. "I really like their style of play. They are very point guard-oriented, let the point guard control a lot of things." McDaniel wants to see Michigan in person and hopefully Florida, Geor- gia, VCU and "probably LSU." He's in no hurry, however, and is willing to see who else might come calling. "I'm wide open," he said. ❑ On The Web For regular reports on Michigan basketball recruiting plus videos of U-M commitments and targets visit TheWolverine.com. Pompano Beach (Fla.)
